Why Is This Important?
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is when the force of your blood pushing against your blood vessels is too strong. This can damage your blood vessels over time and lead to health problems like heart disease or strokes. This is usually recognised as a reading above 135/85mmHg at home, or 140/90mmHg in clinic.
A high blood pressure usually doesn't cause any symptoms (meaning you probably won't feel anything unusual), so having your blood pressure checked regularly allows you and your healthcare team to keep an eye on the condition and make lifestyle or medication changes to control your blood pressure and reduce your health risk.
This service aims to help you organise an up-to-date blood pressure being taken, which can be done at your community pharmacy or at home. If appropriate, suggestions for improved management of your blood pressure may be offered.
