Omeprazole Optimisation

Your surgery is taking part in a new local medication safety and improvement programme. This enables you to benefit from newer medications, products and apps that could improve your healthcare outcomes, whilst also being more cost-effective for the NHS.

Please read the following information about the programme that you may be eligible for.

Medication: Omeprazole

Our region is changing patients from the Omeprazole capsule brand Losec® to non-branded Omeprazole capsules.

  • Same Active Ingredient: The non-branded Omeprazole capsules contain the same active ingredient as Losec, ensuring it works in the same way to reduce stomach acid and manage your condition.
  • Effective and Safe: Non-branded medications are required by law to meet the same standards of quality, safety, and efficacy as brand-name drugs (such as Losec®). You can expect the same benefit from the non-branded version.
  • Consistency in Your Treatment: The dosage and frequency of your medication will remain the same. There is no need to adjust how you take your medication with this switch.
  • Support & Assistance: If you have any concerns or in the unlikely event that you experience any changes in your symptoms after switching to the non-branded version, please do not hesitate to contact your GP practice or our medication optimisation hub support line (below).
  • Packaging & Appearance: The generic medication might look different in terms of colour, shape or packaging compared to Losec - however, these differences do not affect the way the medication works.

How to receive this medication

Your medication will be updated to your repeat prescription in 1-2 weeks and there is nothing you need to do.

If there is any reason you would prefer not to receive this product, simply access your secure portal below, complete the feedback form and your preferences will be prioritised. You will need your NHS number (provided in the text you received) and your date of birth to login.
